South Carolina Highway
PatrolThe South
Carolina Highway Patrol believes that protecting our child passengers is
one of our most important missions. We want to train parents and
caregivers on the proper way to install child safety seats. We have
specially designed half cars, which are retired Highway Patrol cruisers
redesigned to allow a person to view the proper technique for installing
child safety seats. If you would like a certified child safety seat
technician to come to your
daycare or place of business to demonstrate the proper use of child safety
seat seats, please complete the following form and submit. All requests
will be filled according to troopers’ availability in the order the
requests are received by the Highway Patrol.
Riding unrestrained is the greatest risk factor to children in a motor
vehicle -- making them twice as likely to die or be severely injured in a
crash. Improperly restrained children also are far more likely to be
injured, to suffer more severe injuries, and to die in the event of a
crash. Today, 95 percent of infants and 91 percent of toddlers age one to
four are restrained in safety seats. However, the bad news is that 85
percent of those children are improperly restrained. The misusage rate in
South Carolina is even more alarming: more than 95 percent of children are
improperly restrained. The single most important thing you can do to
protect your children is to buckle them up properly, every trip, every
time.
