Cpl. Richard Varn Woods 8/19/1969 Corporal Woods was on Duty in Beaufort County on August 15, 1969 when he pulled a vehicle over for speeding. Unbeknown to Corporal Woods, the three suspects were wanted for burglary and larceny. Corporal Woods was shot and died four days later from his injuries. The three suspects were charged in his death. Corporal Woods was a nine year veteran of the Patrol and was a native of Jasper County.
