S/Trp. Michael Joseph Rao 6/12/2002 Senior Trooper Rao was on duty in Clarendon County when he was struck off the roadway by a pickup as he was assisting a disabled motorist. Senior Trooper Rao died two days later. The driver of the pickup was charged with Reckless Homicide. Senior Trooper Rao was a four year veteran of the Patrol and was recently assigned to the Patrol’s Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team. Senior Trooper Rao was a native of Toms River, New Jersey and grew up in Lancaster County.
