I miss Stephany coming home and saying, "Ma, I'm hungry. What we got to eat?" She was the only one out of my three children to call me that. Ashley and Steven called me "Momma" or "Mother." She called Glenn, her father, "Daadee," dragging it out. We miss her smile, as that was her signature, and when she smiled her face lit up.
I miss our conversations, her laughter, her sitting down by me and laying her head on my shoulder. We miss her interaction with the family. We were, and still are, a close-knit family. We miss telling her we love her and her responding back.
Stephany was 18 years old when she was killed in a one-car accident. It was Homecoming Sunday. She left her dorm that morning so she could attend church service with us. It was misting rain when she lost control of her car, leaving the road and hitting a culvert. The car flipped and she was ejected. We believe she was not wearing a seat belt.
Stephany was attending USC Aiken. She was studying Early Childhood Education. Her plans were to be a teacher.
She was a sweet, happy, mannerly, a little mischievous (in a fun way) but an obedient young lady. She worked, went to school, and always found time for her friends and family. She was a member of the "One Way" drama team at Hampton Church of God.
Her specialty was to cheer you up and her goal was to make you laugh. She was a very good listener and more than one of her many friends said, "When you needed her attention, you had her full attention." She loved people and it didn't matter what age, sex or race. Our pastor said, "She had a way of worming her way into your heart."
We miss her more than words can express. This has brought our family even closer, appreciating our time together, helping us to forgive quicker and we look forward to the time when we will be reunited together in Heaven.
